This hidden Federal gem was built in 1799 by Alexander Jenkins, a member of the Jenkins family who were among the Proprietors that came from Nantucket and Rhode Island to settle the City of Hudson. Renovated in 1833 into the more fashionable Greek Revival style of the time as noted by the Ionic columns on the front porch and the symmetrical "wings" which were added to the house. The roofline was raised to accommodate servants quarters in the attic, and the house took on a much grander style.

Virtually unchanged since, the house has a patina that only comes with age - formal, yet comfortable in the truest tradition of a grand country lifestyle, with the convenience of modern day amenities - top of the line stainless steel Viking appliances, granite counter tops, 6 working fireplaces all with original mantles, and twelve-over-twelve windows. The wide center hall extends from front to back on two levels and features the original burnished wide-plank floors throughout.

All rooms are 19 feet square. The first floor consists of an extra large living room with fireplace and marble mantle, a formal dining room with built in cupboards and fireplace, a kitchen with top of the line stainless appliances and large hearth fireplace, a laundry room, a bathroom, and a library with built in bookcases, affording a private spot to curl up with a book by the fireplace or to spend the day working from the home office.

On the second floor, 3 large bedrooms / sitting rooms, 2 with working fireplaces, offer the ultimate in privacy. The master-suite features an adjacent dressing room. Two more luxurious large bedrooms, and a modern travertine lined bathroom with a glass shower enclosure and jacuzzi tub complete this floor.

At the rear of the house is a 15 x 30 glassed in porch, the perfect spot to laze away hot summer days, or relax in the evening with friends and watch a movie on the 20’ wide projection screen. Moving outside, there is a second porch, and a large bluestone patio for summer sunning and dining. A fenced in cutting and flower garden compliments the patio.

The house sits on 6.9 acres surrounded by the the Greenport Conservation Area, which will ensure privacy now and forever more as protected land. The park-like grounds are graced by stately locust, maple and pear trees, sweeping lawns, perennial gardens, and stone walls and walkways. An in ground heated 20 x 40 pool, and a large Bluestone patio complete this gracious country homestead, all just a short walk into the city itself and all the excitement it offers.
