The Namesake Celebration is a waterfront festival, built around a three-day visit from the replica ship Half Moon. Activities include


• Tours of the replica ship, Henry Hudson’s Half Moon, available on Saturday and Sunday, July 25 and 26, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Special group tours may be available on Monday, July 27. To inquire about a group tour, contact aldermanthurston@cityofhudson.org.


• Crafts demonstrations in period costume including children’s games, Native American technology, and other hands-on activities.


• Information and sales booths. A special section of the park will be set aside for tourism literature, including brochures from historic sites and Columbia County towns. Organizations working to improve the river habitat will be available to explain their programs. Souvenirs of the Quad and a special commemorative booklet will be available.


• Awarding of the prize in the Henry Hudson Look-Alike Contest. Look for press announcements!


• Children’s activities will include circus workshops with members of the Bindlestiff Family Cirkus, a performance by Dutch folksingers Nonne and Ankie, and entertainment by Roger the Jester and Mr. Twisty.


• Fun on the River—Ferry service to the Village of Athens and visits to the historic Hudson-Athens Lighthouse will be offered. Hudson-Athens Lighthouse Preservation Society


• Walking tours of Promenade Hill and Hudson’s historic districts are encouraged. Walking tour brochures will be available.


• A Saturday Night Extravaganza with a gala concert, fireworks, and a light show


Location The celebration and festival will take place in Hudson’s waterfront park, recently renamed Henry Hudson Riverfront Park, Friday, July 24, through Sunday, July 26, 2009. The Half Moon will be moored at the city dock, near the gazebo.


Transportation Public transportation is available via Amtrak from New York City, Albany, Boston, and points west. Hudson’s waterfront park is a short walk from the Amtrak station. About Hudson


Ferry service from Hudson to Athens will be available. Trolley transportation throughout the City of Hudson and adequate parking is available.

 

Food Picnicking is encouraged. Food vendors will sell a variety of food and beverages.

Alcohol consumption is not allowed in waterfront park.


Pets Dogs are not allowed in waterfront park.
